Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Lakers hired John Kuester to serve as an assistant coach. Kuester had worked as the head coach for the Detroit Pistons for the last two years before being fired on June 5 after a meeting between Pistons ownership and himself. He had a 57-107 record over two seasons with the club, including a 30-52 mark in 2010-11. Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - The Denver Nuggets have acquired the draft rights to Chukwudiebere (Chu Chu) Maduabum from the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for a future second-round pick. Maduabum, a 6-9 forward from Nigeria, was chosen 56th overall in Thursday's draft. He last played for the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA D-League. EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) - The NBA draft came and went, and the core of the Los Angeles Lakers remains the same.

Despite rumors of potential trades that would have altered their roster, the Lakers didn't make any significant moves Thursday. Instead, Los Angeles drafted two guards and a pair of forwards with its four second-round selections.

The Lakers took Michigan point guard Darius Morris at No. 41 and guard Andrew Goudelock from the College of Charleston with the 46th pick.
