Sharks, Canucks set for key Western showdown

The Canucks began a three-game road trip with Thursday's win and own an 18-13-3 record away from home. Vancouver concludes the swing Sunday in Anaheim.

San Jose is coming off a pair of big road wins over Dallas and Minnesota, with goaltender Evgeni Nabokov registering a shutout in each contest. On Tuesday, the veteran Russian stopped all 26 shots he faced to lead the Sharks to a 3-0 victory over the Wild.

Milan Michalek had a goal and an assist for San Jose, which stopped a four- game slide with Sunday's 4-0 blanking of Dallas, while Joe Thornton set up a pair of scores. Ryane Clowe and Jonathan Cheechoo also had goals in the triumph.

The Sharks will play their next three games at HP Pavilion, where the club is 18-12-2 on the season. San Jose will also host Edmonton and Chicago on the stretch.

San Jose enters tonight's play as the Western Conference's fifth seed with 82 points, but three teams (Calgary, Dallas, Minnesota) are all just one point behind the Sharks.

These squads have each defeated one another once this season, with both meetings held in Vancouver. In fact, the Sharks and Canucks have split the four-game season series every year since 2002-03.
