Luongo leads Canucks past Sharks

01/29/2007 - Vancouver, BC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Roberto Luongo stopped 38 shots to help the Vancouver Canucks knock off the San Jose Sharks, 3-1, at General Motors Place.

Taylor Pyatt had a goal and an assist while Brendan Morrison and Daniel Sedin each lit the lamp for the Canucks, who snapped a small two-game slide.

Joe Pavelski scored the lone goal and Evgeni Nabokov made stopped 21-of-23 shots for the Sharks, who have dropped two of their last three games.

Neither team got on the scoreboard in the first period with San Jose having a total of 11 shots and Vancouver nine.

The Sharks broke onto the scoreboard in the second period when Milan Michalek flicked a shot from the top of the right circle that Luongo saved. The rebound, though, went to the slot and Pavelski snapped a shot from his knees that went between the pads of Luongo for a 1-0 lead just 1:10 in.

The Canucks, however, grabbed a 2-1 lead with goals separated by 2:18.

On the power play, Markus Naslund sent a lead pass to Pyatt, who skated in all alone and wristed a shot through the five-hole of Nabokov with 7:29 left in the second.

A bit later, Pyatt received a pass in the San Jose end, skated down to the low right side and backhanded a centering pass to Sedin, who redirected the puck into the right corner of the net with 5:11 left in the second.

San Jose had a total of 23 shots in the second period.

The Vancouver defense clamped down in the third period and limited San Jose to just six shots, all of which came from the outside or bad angles, which Luongo easily turned aside.

Morrison added an empty-netter in the final moments of the game to seal the victory.
