11/13/2006 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Chicago Cubs agreed to terms on a five- year contract with third baseman Aramis Ramirez on Sunday.

The deal will keep the All-Star in Chicago through the 2011 season and includes a mutual option for the 2012 season.

The 28-year old Ramirez had career bests of 38 home runs and 119 runs batted in with the Cubs in 2006, and he led all National League third basemen in fielding percentage.

In three-plus seasons with the Cubs, Ramirez has batted .298 with 120 home runs and 353 RBI in 488 games. He was originally acquired by the Cubs from the Pittsburgh Pirates in July of 2003.

In 1,047 career games, Ramirez has hit .279 with 196 home runs and 669 RBI in his stints with the Pirates and Cubs.

The team also re-signed oft-injured pitcher Kerry Wood to a one-year deal.

The hard-throwing Wood, 29, ranks fifth in club history with 1,299 career strikeouts -- just six strikeouts behind Greg Maddux (1,305) for fourth in franchise annals.

In 189 career games, all with Chicago, Wood has compiled a 71-56 record with a 3.68 earned run average.

In 2006 Wood battled right shoulder injuries for the third straight season in and appeared in just four games (four starts), going 1-2 with a 4.12 ERA.
